Matteo Sánchez (born December 19, 2007, Huixquilucan del Degollado; raised in Toronto) is a Canadian filmmaker, director, writer and editor studying Film Production at York University. He first emerged with the guerrilla-style, micro-budget experimental short Green Grass, Yellow Sun (2025), and more recently won Best Narrative Film for his debut festival submission, MÍGUEL (2025)—a Spanish-language drama shot in Mexico.

Sánchez’s work engages with existential themes and is heavily influenced by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Carlos Reygadas, Terrence Malick, and Lars von Trier, blending poetic realism with intimate, emotionally raw storytelling.
