Join Maddie as she finds out how much energy we use as she plans a party for all her friends at the Eco Village. We learn how the different party preparations use different types of energy. Maddie uses her own kinetic energy when she rides her bike to deliver the invitations. Jelly needs electrical energy to set in the fridge, and heat energy is needed for baking a cake in the oven. We discover that we can get energy from the sun and wind and visit the wind turbines and solar panels to see how they work. Luckily, Maddie has some energy left to do some party dancing when all the preparations are done.
Join Maddie on a journey of discovery at the Eco Village as she finds out how they use and save water. We discover how water is important for lots of jobs around the home. We use it to keep ourselves clean and healthy when we have a bath or a shower, and we need water to drink. We can save water in lots of different ways. Maddie uses her special camera to follow the water as it goes down the plughole, and we learn about the water cycle and find out where rain comes from.
Join Maddie to find out how we grow and cook the food we eat as she prepares and makes a meal for her friends at the Eco Village. We visit the vegetable garden to see how long it takes for vegetables to grow, how much space we need and how food that grows at different times of the year is called seasonal produce. Maddie uses her special cameras to show how we can grow food in a polytunnel, and we discover how the fruit and vegetables we buy in the supermarket are grown. Next, Maddie uses all the veg she’s collected to batch-cook her favourite meal for all her friends, and we learn that the leftovers, like peels from fruit and veg, can be collected to be turned into compost and help to look after our planet.
Join Maddie as she learns about the things we buy as she plans and shops for a camping trip. We learn how everything we buy travels from different places before it arrives in the shops and how far things travel from. Fresh bread travels just a few miles from the local bakery, but a bar of chocolate can travel 15,000 miles to get to the shop! Maddie shows us how we can refill bottles and containers, and she learns about different types of packaging and what they are made from.
Join Maddie on an adventure around the Eco Village to discover how we can build houses in different ways. Using a map to find the way, Maddie discovers how houses can be built using recycled materials and how energy can be harnessed from the sun and wind to use in the home. We explore the different parts of the house, from the strong walls that help the house stay upright to the windows that let us see outside and let the light in. Maddie uses her special camera to show solar panels on a roof, and we learn how we can build houses that help keep warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot.
