"Wake" ("Vaka") is one of those Scandinavian series you hope will go somewhere interesting but doesn't. The story revolves around an outbreak of a virulent contagion that, as it turns out, is the result of contamination from a pharmaceutical company that ends up infecting the drinking water supply with a novel toxic chemical discharge. People get red rings around the Isis and cannot sleep, leading to an often dramatic and horrible death. It sounds interesting enough, but a constant shifting in the roles of key figures, a lack of general direction and more than a little woke posturing rob it of its potential. I managed about 60-70% of the series before calling it quits. Upsides include an intriguing premise, strong acting and some dramatic scenes as the virus takes hold in earnest. In summary, a disappointing series that needed to do more to be truly engaging. A moderate watch at best.
